The Volunteer Service Award was established to honor Ashley O. Thrift, a Forsyth County attorney and 14-year Board Chair of The North Carolina Partnership for Children (NCPC), Inc., the organization that leads Smart Start. Thrift has been part of Smart Start since its inception, serving as Board Chair of the local Smart Start partnership in Forsyth County before joining the NCPC board. Thrift has advocated tirelessly for Smart Start, visiting every county in the state on Smart Start’s behalf. The Volunteer Service award is given annually to honor a current or past Smart Start Local Partnership Board Chair who embodies Thrift’s dedication.
